Li Qingyun was a Chinese herbalist, martial artist and tactical advisor. He was known for his supposed extreme longevity. He claimed to born in 1736, while disputed records suggest 1677, implying an age at death of 197 and 256 years, respectively. He is the highest verified ages on record. He was died on died 6 May 1933.

Li Qingyun (Chinese: 李清云; pinyin: lǐ qīngyún (sometimes spelled Li Qingyuen, born on an undetermined date in Xian of Qijiang, Sichuan province and died on May 6, 1933) is a medical doctor, pharmacist and herbalist of medicine He is known for his supposedly extreme longevity, far ahead of the official record held by Jeanne Calment. However, his actual date of birth could not be determined with certainty and his alleged longevity is considered a myth by gerontologists .

Biography
To maintain fitness, he ate plants including goji berries and ginseng daily, and practiced qigong, Taoist health exercises.

An article in Time magazine from May 15, 1933 says that this doctor who lived in the province of Sichuan declared himself to be 197 years old and to have been born in 1736. At the age of 10, he would have traveled the provinces from Gansu, Shaanxi, as well as Tibet, Annam, Siam and would also have gone to Manchuria to collect medicinal plants. He would have continued to collect herbs for the first 100 years of his life. He would have mainly fed on herbs and rice wine2.

An article in the New York Times tells that in 1930, Hu Zhongqian professor of the University of Chengdu would have found his birth certificate, which dates from 1677. In 1827, the government would have offered him a gift for his 150th anniversary. According to the newspapers of that time, his right hand had nails measuring 15 cm long.

Yang Jwing-Ming (yáng jùnmǐn), a Chinese physician born in Taiwan, practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Western Medicine, living in the United States and teaching Chinese medicine and Chinese martial arts around the world, writes in his book "Muscle / Tendon Changing and Marrow / Brain Washing Chi Kung - The Secret of Youth", describes that he practiced Qigong and was an expert in herbalism and that he would have spent the majority of his life on top of the mountains. In 1927, General Yang Sen of the National Revolutionary Army invited Li Qingyun to his cantonment in Wan xian , then in Sichuan (this xian entered Chongqing municipality since 1997). It was at this time that his photographic portrait was taken.

After his death the general is said to have written a report of the research he carried out on him entitled A lucky man of 250 years.
