Edappadi Palanisamy has been announced as the AIADMK Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2021 Assembly elections.
The consultation to select the Chief Ministerial candidate and the AIADMK steering committee lasted till 3.30 am today. AIADMK Deputy Coordinator Vaithilingam said good news would come at 10 am today following consultations held at the homes of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. AIADMK volunteers started arriving at the party headquarters early in the morning.
At around 9 am, senior ministers, AIADMK MPs and MLAs arrived at the AIADMK headquarters. At the same time the Deputy Chief Minister OPS left his home and arrived at the AIADMK headquarters. There he was given an enthusiastic welcome.
Following this, Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy also left his residence at the AIADMK headquarters. Along the way he was greeted enthusiastically by AIADMK volunteers.
After arriving at the AIADMK headquarters, Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy and Deputy Chief Minister OPS met reporters. Speaking at the time, Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy announced the names of the 11-member committee headed by the AIADMK.
Speaking later, OPS, the Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK co-ordinator, said he was happy to announce Edappadi Palanisamy as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2021 Assembly elections.
Following the announcement of Edappadi Palanisamy as the Chief Ministerial candidate, the AIADMK headquarters and those outside rallied. Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy wore a shawl to the Deputy Chief Minister OPS. Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister OPS congratulated Edappadi Palanisamy, who was declared the Chief Ministerial candidate, with a shawl and a bouquet.
Following this, Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy, Deputy Chief Minister OPS and Ministers paid their respects at the Jayalalithaa and MGR memorials.
