Heavy rains in Vellore district have flooded several places, severely affecting wildlife.
Heavy rains many parts of Vellore district due to Nivar storm. The main roads in Vellore such as Annasalai, Katpadisalai, Arcadusalai, Aranisalai, Bangalore Road and Sattuvachari areas were flooded by the rains. The police housing board residence near the Vellore North police station was flooded.
More than 200 houses were flooded in Vellore Consulate, Gandhinagar, Indiranagar, Sampathnagar and parts of Katpadi. Rainwater seeped into many homes.
The Uthirakaveri River, which originates in the Javvadumalai range and flows through the upper reaches, was suddenly flooded, touching both banks.
The Nicholson Canal near Mangai Mandi was flooded due to heavy rains in parts of Vellore Corporation. Due to the blockage of the small canals leading to the canal, rainwater suddenly seeped into the city and flooded the houses there. Informed firefighters went there immediately with 3 boats. They went house to house with the corporation employees and the revenue department and were involved in the rescue operation.
In Vellore district, 132 acres of banana, papaya and paddy crops were damaged due to torrential rains.
72 trees, 10 power poles leaning. 40 houses were demolished.
1,120 people have been rescued and are staying in 31 camps.
