Renowned cricketer Gautam Gambhir has launched the Jan Rasoi scheme in his East Delhi constituency to provide food to the people for one rupee
After retiring from cricket, Gautam Gambhir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested in the Eastern constituency and became an MP. Gambhir, who has become a full-time politician, is now involved in various welfare projects in the constituency. As a part of it, he started a program to provide food to the people of his block for one rupee. Gautam Gambhir has converted the business complex in the Gandhi Nagar area of East Delhi into a kitchen for the project.
The kitchen is set up with modern amenities. This canteen can seat up to 100 people at a time. Currently, only 50 people will be allowed in at a time due to the corona. Rice, lentils and vegetables will be served for lunch. Only one rupee will be charged for lunch. This lunch program is run entirely by the Gautam Gambhir Foundation. It is noteworthy that no government assistance was received. Next up. Gambhir plans to open a similar canteen in Delhi's Ashok Nagar on January 26 to mark Republic Day.

In a statement, Gautam Gambhir said, “Street dwellers are unable to eat even twice a day. The capital Delhi does not have canteens to cater to people at low cost. Everyone across caste, religion, race should get good nutritious healthy food. During the Lockdown period, field workers returned to their hometowns without access to food and basic necessities. He said that every people living in Delhi should have access to good healthy food and drinking water facility.
